Island Blooms by Costa Farms 16" Tall Dietes Iris, Direct Sunlight, Live Flowering Outdoor Plant

Dietes (Dietes grandiflora), commonly known as African iris or wild iris, is a resilient evergreen perennial cherished for its elegant, sword-like foliage and delicate, iris-like blooms. The flowers, typically white with yellow and violet markings, emerge on tall stalks, providing a graceful touch to gardens and landscapes. Notably, each blossom lasts only a day, but the plant produces a succession of flowers over an extended period, especially during spring and early summer. To ensure optimal growth, plant Dietes in well-draining soil enriched with organic matter. While it thrives in full sunlight, it can tolerate partial shade, though flowering may be reduced. Once established, Dietes exhibits notable drought tolerance but benefits from regular watering during prolonged dry spells. Be cautious not to overwater, as excessive moisture can lead to root rot. Pruning is generally minimal; however, removing spent flower stalks can promote a tidier appearance and may encourage additional blooming. Given its robust nature, Dietes can serve as an excellent groundcover, border plant, or accent in both formal and informal garden settings. Its adaptability and low-maintenance requirements make it a favored choice for gardeners seeking enduring beauty with minimal upkeep.
